Your skin's purpose
Your skin protects you throughout daily life - and possibly in more ways than you realize. It blocks harmful elements from entering your body, such as the sun's UV rays, viruses and bacteria, while providing a structure for important ones, such as muscles, nerves, and fluids. Skin is also your primary line of defence against wounds caused by friction or impact.
Additionally, your skin's sweat glands play a central role in regulating your body temperature. And if you live in socks and shoes - like many of us do - your feet's sweat glands must work overtime to maintain the ideal environment. Consequently, your feet produce up to ¼ litre of perspiration in one day, making feet particularly vulnerable to skin conditions like athlete's foot.
